Help Host a Racial Justice Dance Show with CounterPulse

  • Counter Pulse 80 Turk Street San Francisco, CA, 94102 United States (map)

CounterPulse is hosting Gerald Casel’s work Not About Race Dance. It critiques the unmarked predominance of whiteness in US postmodernism, citing Neil Greenberg’s Not About AIDS Dance (1994) to draw a connection between the silence around the AIDS epidemic and the unacknowledged racial politics of postmodern dance. The piece centers Black and brown artists and will be performed Thursday, December 9, through Saturday, December 11.

Event Volunteers receive free admission to the show and report to the House Manager for duties and training. All volunteers help to assure the lobby is ready for the audience to arrive and help tidy after the show. Each volunteer will also be assigned to one of three roles:

Position 1: Door Greeter
The door greeter kindly welcomes audience members into the space and is the first line of covid-19 Safety checks, including checking for proof of vaccination or negative covid-19 test from within 48 hours.

Position 2: Box Office
The box office volunteer ensures will-call patrons check-in, sells walk-up tickets, and keeps track of how many people are in attendance.

Position 3: Usher

The usher passes out programs, helps the audience find seats in the theater and is generally available to direct the audience throughout the building and answer questions.

There is an evening show each day with a matinee on Saturday. Volunteers are needed as follows:

Thursday, December 9th, 6-9:30pm

Friday, December 10th, 6-9:30pm

Saturday, December 11th, 12:30-4pm

Saturday, December 11th, 6-9:30pm

After signing up below, you will receive a confirmation email connecting you to your point-of-contact at CounterPulse, Hannah Meleokaiao Ayasse. At that point, please let them know which shift you would like to sign up for and what position you would most like to work.
