Volunteer at the GLBTQ Asian Pacific Alliance Runway!

  • Herbst Theater 401 Van Ness Avenue San Francisco, CA, 94102 United States (map)

This runway is the flagship event of the GLBTQ+ Asian Pacific Alliance (GAPA). The annual pageant celebrates visibility and representation of the queer and trans Asian & Pacific Islander (A/PI) community. It offers a stage for us to celebrate our artistry as well as our ability to express our most authentic selves. First started over 30 years ago, Runway has evolved along with the needs of the queer & trans A/PI community in its full diversity, featuring not only cis gay males, in and out of drag, but also women, transgender and gender non-conforming siblings.

This year’s theme is Harmonic Convergence: imagine two forces meeting. Two sides of the same coin. Think of moon cycles, the new and the full, the waxing and the waning. Crescent moons facing each other. The face of the moon that touches the sun’s rays, our familiar presence that influences Earth’s tides. The dark side of the moon that we still know so little about, pitted and marked by memories of impacts that didn’t reach Earth.

Convergence—forces meet. They are many, and they are also one—they search for balance. Because here, together—aligned. Harmony.

Organization Description:

Established in 1988, GLBTQ+ Asian Pacific Alliance (GAPA) offers a wide range of programming, including social, cultural, professional and political, to the entire spectrum of the queer trans Asian Pacific Islander (QTAPI) community. They envision a powerful QTAPI community that is seen, heard and celebrated. And through events such as Runway, they intend to unite our families and allies through inclusion, advocacy and love. Through their 30+ years’ history, GAPA creates community, family and home.
