Volunteer With Gay For Good OC/Long Beach At This Year’s Best Buddies Friendship Walk!

Join Gay for Good (G4G) OC/Long Beach as they partner with Best Buddies International for their annual Friendship Walk! Volunteers are needed to assist with event set up and registration. This is the leading walk in the country supporting inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (also known as IDD).

Since 2009, more than 150,000 participants in 60 cities have walked to raise awareness for inclusion, friendship, leadership development and integrated job opportunities for people with IDD. Funds raised at the Friendship Walks help fund local Best Buddies programs.

Date: Saturday, April 23

Time: Multiple Shifts Available

  • SHIFT 1: 7:00–9:00am Assist with setup and decorations.

  • SHIFT 2: 8:30–10:30am Assist with registration and participant check-ins.

Location: 200 Aquarium Way Long Beach, CA 90802 (There is a parking lot located at 99 Golden Shore, Long Beach, CA 90802)

Additional details: Shoes should be closed-toe and comfortable. Please wear a plain black shirt if possible (avoid logos, screen tees, etc.). This event is outdoors so a water bottle and sunscreen are also recommended.

Age requirement: Volunteers under 14 years old must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian.

COVID Guidelines: The Best Buddies Friendship Walk is an outdoor live event with less than 1,000 people in attendance. In accordance with the local city and state health mandates, use of a well-fitted mask is recommended while indoors and in close proximity. All tables will have hand sanitizer available and food products will be served by an event staff, not self-service. Please stay home if you have had known exposure to COVID-19 in the last 10 days or are displaying symptoms.

Best Buddies International is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
