Jack Beck Selected for the 2023 Roddenberry Fellowship
Inspired by the life and legacy of Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, The Roddenberry Foundation supports innovative thinking, original ideas, and “extraordinary people who can change the world.” We are proud to announce that our very own Executive Director Jack Beck has been hand picked as one of the 2023 Roddenberry Fellows.
Launched in 2016, the Roddenberry Fellowship is a 12-month program that offers exceptional leaders and advocates $50,000 to use new and innovative strategies to safeguard human rights and ensure an equal and just society for all. This year, Jack will join a powerful collective of like-minded peers who are collectively working to reimagine a fairer, more inclusive country.
“We know that the LGBTQ+ nonprofit infrastructure is our community’s most important support system, but it faces serious system-wide challenges,” Jack explains, highlighting many of the vulnerabilities queer and trans nonprofits still face today. “TurnOut provides a novel, full-framework approach that allows us to strengthen a city’s LGBTQ+ infrastructure as a whole.”
At its core, the Roddenberry Fellowship is about community, bringing extraordinary people together to learn, share, and grow in the pursuit of meaningful, long-term change. To date, there are close to 100 Roddenberry Fellows from across the country, working on a range of critical issues from immigrant detention and voting rights to healthcare and domestic abuse. Together, Jack and his 2023 Roddenberry cohort will collectively work to make the U.S. a more inclusive and equitable place to live.
“This past year we have worked to recruit, train, and support individuals at every level of the queer and trans grassroots response… with the support of this fellowship, we are able to expand this work to LGBTQ+ communities who need it most.”
Congratulations, Jack!
